USA 2019 2020 Phoenix Monday 30 - Tues 31

PHOENIX

Monday 30

Breakfast in the lounge area.

Quick stop at the old post office - twee.

Walk to meet up with  Rajas on Roosevelt Row.to see arty walls and street art and cool shops and get a good coffee.  Angel wings art and kids playing. Quick sidewalk electro scooter hire.  Long wait for tea. Chilli cold coffee.

Japanese Friendship garden but it’s closed on Mondays

Clothing store with reconditioned stuff - Grady buys a cool red lumberjack shirt and Drew a leather jacket to wear continuously - weather be damned.

Lunch at refurbished church “taco guild”
Mike the owner
Deep fried avocado - mmmmm
Cherry steak chipotle
140 types of tequila
Cocktails for lunch

We notice lots of cool cactus plants in and around Phoenix. The Turlock’s cartoon type ones and lots others.

Musical instrument museum aka MIM - we hear its good but nobody expects much. Turns out its "totes awsesome".  Long drive out of town. Amazing building in the middle of a long way away and great gardens outside... Zoe spots a hummingbird eating from cactus flowers.

We all take headsets and separate - looking at and experiencing history and sounds from every country in earth.

Amazing interactive technology, photos and instruments from everywhere - great geographical explanations that shows how music and styles develop and travel and shift. Then an interactive room for drums that Grady and Drew get stuck into for ages.

Drew drums with Elliot and E from Houston
Steinway grand in the foyer - 13 yr old girl transforms
Music from all over the world
Bagpipes are not from Scotland. Originally Mediterranean.
All would have stayed longer but it closed so we had to go.

Zoe’s necklace breaks as she gets to the car park   Race  back to replace

Botanical gardens - Los Luminares - the festive night lights at the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens
Lots of people - massive venue - cold but little epicentres where performing musicians and hot alcoholic drinks being sold.
We had white hot chocolate with Khalua and spiced hot apple cider with Bourbon.

Watched the duelling pianos.
Saw owls and a snake and thousands and thousands of gorgeous light displays.

Then back to hotel where we ate snacks from lounge area again - not very good this time.
Zoe and Tilda took a swim in the outside heated pool on the second floor - cold cold cold.

We really like Phoenix.
